Code of Conduct

Bonnyrigg Football Club would like to remind players, parents and spectators of their obligations during the season and to bring to your attention a code of behaviour applicable

The code provides a guide to reinforce the positive elements of players’ participation in sport. They expound a philosophy of fair play – with an emphasis on fun, competition and individual fulfilment.

We are a Club run by volunteers for your and our children. Your help in the running and management of the Club will assist in the smooth operation of weekly duties and weekend game days.

The Club has implemented the following code of behaviour to ensure enjoyment of Saturday and Sunday sports fixtures by all players, spectators and coaches:

  • Only team captains may speak to the referee.
  • Verbal abuse of referees is never permitted.
  • Offensive language by players and spectators is not allowed.
  • Failure to acknowledge and abide by the code may result in dismissal from the playing arena by match officials. Please accept the code and contribute to the creation of an enjoyable and friendly atmosphere for weekend sport at Bonnyrigg Football Club.

This is a code of behaviour for spectators at football games (players & parents) from the Bonnyrigg Football Club Committee:

  • We encourage students to support their Club teams and to dress in the Club’s gear while doing so.
  • We expect barracking to be enthusiastic but not fanatical or designed to heckle, belittle or disturb the opponents. For example, barracking against a team is always bad sportsmanship. Supporters should be encouraged to barrack for their Club rather than for an individual team member. Booing is in bad taste.
  • Vocal support for any team should never encourage violence or rough or illegal play.
  • Encroaching on the field of play or shouting out suggestions for players, referees or linesmen to hear are not permitted.
  • It is never right to express disapproval of a referee or umpire's decision, no matter whether the referee is an adult or student.
  • There is a complete ban on all alcoholic drinks and smoking.
  • We expect our players to be modest in success and generous in defeat, not showing in either case undue emotion. Good play, by our own Club and by the opposing Club, should be applauded and recognised.
  • At all times, spectators should leave the area tidy and free of rubbish.
  • We look to adults to set an example by their self-control at matches.

The club will be undertaking fundraising again this year to help cover the costs of presentation and trophies. It is expected that all players participate.

Bonnyrigg Football Club requests that parents of players help in the canteen and with barbecue duties. A canteen and barbecue schedule will be prepared once the season draw is released, and home teams will be rostered. Running of the Club is made  much easier if parents can contribute a few hours on weekends.

We look forward to many successes for the season.

Kind Regards

Committee Bonnyrigg Football Club
